Letter from the President

Mar 2022

Greetings GLWA gals,

I always wonder as I write a monthly letter if any of it will be relevant 10 or 20 years from now. Unfortunately, late February 2022 will make history books. Russia invades Ukraine and the world watches in horror and helplessness. I admit my faith has been shaken, but then so quickly restored when I see the spirit and resolve of ordinary people standing up for who and what they believe in. Many have family, friends, and colleagues who are affected by this.  My thoughts and prayers are with you. We are universal in compassion, empathy, love of fellow man and a willingness to help when, where and how it’s needed. May God bless us all and bring us peace throughout the world.

The spirit of generosity in the Geneva Lake Women’s Association continues as we were able to bless Side by Side with $1500 donation in February. We welcomed five new members into our organization Colleen, Dawn, Jean, Karen and Wendy. Welcome, thank you and GLWA looks forward to seeing your smiles often. A huge “thank you” to our February hostesses, Joanne and Diane, for a great time at the Ridge.  We also welcomed a number of guests including a special young woman, Kam and her mom Dusti, who graciously posed for a photo while receiving the donation for Never Say Never Playground.

There’s always a bit of business to be conducted and GLWA has a lot going on. Women’s Weekend is ready to go live for registration, Scholarship applications will be reviewed in April, Safety Town is prepping for June and Ladies Day Luncheon will be fast approaching in September. Our candidates for the 2022/2023 Board were announced and voting will take place at the March meeting. Thank you to the lovely ladies ready to take on leadership roles:  President, Laurie Hallmark; Vice President, Treasure Sperry; Treasurer, Pat Herman; Secretary, Deb Otlewis and Internal Director Cathy Popick. Ballots will be sent to all eligible voters prior to the March meeting.

Being a member of the Geneva Lake Women’s Association has been a huge part of my life for over twenty years. I’ve made lifelong friends, been involved in countless fundraisers, fun times and have been given many more opportunities because of the relationships formed through GLWA. It is quite exciting to see so many new members–the talents that you bring, the enthusiasm and your ideas. I challenge all of you to always look inside your heart and remember why you want to be a part of this group.  Hopefully, it is because you have a heart for service to others, as we are in fact a service organization that really does require your time, talents, and presence.

I look forward to seeing you at the March 7th meeting.

Always,

Cathy

February Galentine’s Members Meeting (2/7/22) at the Ridge

Hosts: Joanne Cotter & Diane K Nopenz

We had a Galentine’s explosion!  Hearts, outfits with red flair, fancy cupcakes and our mascot, Oshi (Catherine Rupp’s service pup in-training).  Joanne & Diane presented a lovely choice for pizza lovers and amazing desserts—which Diane whipped up herself.

Women’s Weekend committee members donned roaring 20’s head pieces for a peek into their plans for the exciting Friday night party in May.

Our president, Cathy Stoodley, installed five new members; Wendy Pike, Jean Ward, Dawn Fairbanks, Karen Rappaport, and Colleen Walsh (via phone).  We were happy to  have guests from the Jan meeting.  Great to see you again!!

Things got serious as Kathy Papcke took the floor to present the slate of candidates for the board.  ‘Congress’ could take notes as to Kathy’s professionalism and courteous manner.  Hear ye, hear ye!

That’s a wrap!

We’re thinking about you Colton and sending you lots of prayers.  Can’t wait to hear you sing Johnny Cash covers again.  You got this little buddy!  Surgery was 1/31/22 @ 4:30am.   Latest updated:  3/1/22:

*Keep in mind, if your schedule does not allow for a committee chair position, we are always in need of committee members.  Do not let your ideas & input go untapped!  Some committees meet more frequently than others.  If you miss one, it’s easy to catch up or attend when you find time.  It’s fun, you meet many great ladies, and learn much through networking.
