Anchors Aweigh Summer Picnic / General Meeting was a Success

The July meeting/Annual Picnic was a success. Thank you to Laura S. for letting us use her Powers Lake home. Mother Nature held off on the rain for just long enough so that we could enjoy our time outside.

With nautical festivities, games, and fantastic entertainment, our social committee brought the Anchors Aweigh theme to life. LD’s BBQ provided delicious catering.

We talked about our upcoming Ladies Day Luncheon, the donations we’ll be making to charities and organizations, and other upcoming events.

We welcomed four new GLWA members, as well as several visitors who we hope, will become members soon. Val, Deb, Judie, and Nancy, thank you for joining us!

Julie Ann, one of our guests, was the lucky winner of the Buoys and Anchors game, winning a Happy Days-themed boat cruise with food and drinks. Congratulations!

Our next meeting will be held in August.

GLWA Gives, 2nd Annual Tampon & Pad Drive

Welcome to our second annual Tampon & Pad drive to benefit the Walworth County Food Pantry & Diaper bank. Female hygiene items and incontinence pads are always needed in the pantry, and as a group of women, we recognize how critical this is.
Last year, we concentrated on male and female incontinence products. We’d like to focus more on tampons and pads this year, as they’ll be provided to high school kids whose families may not be able to purchase them and therefore the girls miss school.
We’ve created an Amazon wish list for donations. When you click on that link and make a purchase from that list, you will have the option of having it mailed directly to us at GLWA, where it will be delivered to the food pantry when the event is complete.
This list is located at: https://amz.run/4g7N
If you know a GLWA member you can also give your donation to them directly if you do not want to purchase off of Amazon, or you can message us to work out a way to get it from you. The Amazon link was not only convenient last year, but it also worked wonderfully and we would like to continue to use it.
Although our focus is on tampons and pads, we have still included incontinence products on that list.
Thank you for your assistance; we hope to outdo last year’s amazing drive! Please feel free to share this!

There will be a $1 buy-in fee to continue playing the game until one winner remains. The Grand Prize is a three-hour captained and catered rockin’ 50’s theme cruise of Powers Lake! (Date and time to be determined by winner and boat owner).

Please bring cash and a lawn chair if you can! Social hour begins at 5pm with the general meeting to follow.

GLWA: Celebrating 55 Years of Service

Geneva Lake Women’s Association is celebrating a milestone in our amazing history. This year marks the 55th anniversary of our incorporation into a service organization. Back then, we were known as the Lake Geneva Jaycettes and were affiliated with the Jaycees. Changes at the national level led us to change our name in 1985 to the Geneva Lake Women’s Association, but our mission remained the same. To help those in our community in need.

As we celebrate this 55th anniversary, we’ll be sharing with you some of our historic photos and documents. This is our 1985 Welcome Packet. It’s a nice summary of our history and lists some of the many projects we were involved in. You’ll notice, we still host many of the same service projects and contribute to many of the same charities.

Thank you to our many supporters and members who have kept GLWA moving forward all these years. We couldn’t have done it without you. Please feel free to share your photos and memories with us. Just email them to us at glwa@glwa.net.
